Many people think they can get their skis and boards waxed once and then they're good for the season. NOT TRUE. Here are three reasons why it is absolutely essential to get your gear tuned regularly:
1) The Control. Most people don't realize that the less often you get your skis and boards tuned, the less effective each tune is and the easier it is to cause major damage to your gear. When you don't keep your skis and boards maintained, you get less performance and control out of them and an overall shorter life of your (probably not very cheap) gear. So then why would you spend all that money for a day in the mountains, but take gear that is performing at anything less than its full potential?
2) TheSafety. Properly tuned skis and boards are not only smoother, but also more consistent, easier to control, and most importantly, they're safer. The common misconception is that tuning only makes you faster. It can absolutely make you faster if that's what you want, but the main goal is make your gear more predictable and to put you in control. Un-tuned and poorly tuned equipment is not only a danger to you, but also to the people around you!
3) The Money. Tuning your skis and boards not only makes them faster and more responsive, but properly maintaining your gear will save you a lot of money. Leaving damaged bases exposed runs the risk of weakening the ski from the inside-out. This can damage not only your wallet, but your person as well. Also, the more often the base is waxed, the denser it becomes and the more resilient it is against scratches and damage, greatly reducing the risk of costly repairs or even replacements.
The bottom line? Get your skis tuned and take your days on the mountain to a whole new level!
